On October 13, 2011, a high-stakes vehicle pursuit unfolded as Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies joined forces with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to track down robbery suspects. At approximately 4:30 a.m., a stolen white 2001 Dodge Intrepid, fleeing northbound on Interstate 75, was pursued by deputies. As the chase intensified, Hillsborough County deputies and a helicopter team, piloted by Jay Bridwell and Stu O’Shannon, converged on the scene.
The driver, traveling at speeds up to 90 mph, exited I-75 at Big Bend Road, weaving through Apollo Beach before speeding north on U.S. Highway 41. HCSO deputies deployed tire-deflating “stop sticks,” successfully bringing the pursuit to a close in a ditch near U.S. 41 and Riverview Drive. Four suspects from Tampa were arrested, including 22-year-old Antwon Johnnie Moore, 24-year-old Demario L. Murray, 17-year-old De’Eric Tyree Moore, and 20-year-old Timothy Darrell Jefferson, the driver. Jefferson faces additional charges for attempting to ram an HCSO deputy during the chase. This incident highlights the swift action and coordination of law enforcement in Hillsborough County as they ensure justice prevails.
